Tim Ashelford took silver in his age group (50-54) at this weekend’s British Triathlon Championships at Liverpool finishing in a superb time of 2:07:15 including a fast 37 minute 10k (and a fast swim of 21 minutes, and bike of 1 hour 3 minutes!). Back in Yorkshire at the Castle Howard series, we had three Jackpotters racing at the standard and middle distance races. Cat Jameson came home with yet another win at the standard distance (Cat also needs her own podium page!), a full 15 minutes ahead of the next girl and in the top ten overall and with one of the fastest swims of the entire race.
Max Hazell was 2nd overall in the same race, just over a minute behind the race winner. Superb results from both Cat and Max!
Then to the middle distance race at Castle Howard, The Gauntlet, where Colin Hill showed the young guns just how it is done. Returning back to running after an injury, Colin stormed through the race taking silver and finishing in a time of 4:33. Andrew Whiteley took 5th at the same race not far behind Colin (flying bike time Andrew!). Some exceptional racing…Jackpot certainly made it’s mark this weekend at Castle Howard.

Cat Jameson ran to victory at the Olympic distance race at 5150 Zurich this weekend. This was Cat’s first win at one of the 5150 races…one of many we hope. Cat’s bike leg in particular helped her storm to victory. Absolutely fantastic going Cat! #girlpower
Andrew Whiteley guided paratriathlete Haseeb Ahmad around the Eton Dorney standard distance triathlon on Sunday into a silver podium for his age group (40) and 8th overall. Andrew and Haseeb will be returning in a few weeks to Eton Dorney to race again where the race will be televised…watch this space for when!

Heather Sellars claimed a 3rd at the ETU Sprint Triathlon Cup at Chateauroux this weekend in a very fast ladies race, coming home within a minute of the race winner. Tremendous going Heather!

Finally some of our age groupers headed up a little further north to the middle distance Steelman race on Saturday. Alistair Cooke had a storming race finishing 9th overall with Dave Morley also having a very strong race and coming back nicely from injury. Jenni Muston was 2nd lady overall and 1st in age category (#girlpower). Conditions were tough on the bike with gusts of 40mph.
It’s been a busy weekend at Jackpot HQ…get comfy with a mug of tea for this week’s events…
GENEVA 2015 – four of our Jackpotter qualified for the ETU Sprint Triathlon in Geneva which took place in ridiculously high temperatures on Friday. To quote Chris Brown’s own experience of the race, ‘swim was ok, stress free, bit choppy in places (every now and then you reached out and caught fresh air), bike was good (hill pretty steep 9-10% x 3) but also short, then the usual farce on the run, felt like having a heart attack for the first kilometre, walked four times, but by then was ‘in’ to enjoying the race to the best you can in those temperatures. Didn’t help by being held for 30 minutes in the mid-day sun in (black) wetsuits in the starting pens.’
Mika Brown didn’t like the hill in the race one bit and finished 21st in age group, below his usual standard but still in a fast time of 1:10:58. Keiran Hill was 14th in age group and finished just ahead of Mika in 1:09 dead on but needed medical assistance after the race due to the searing heat. Claire Pickersgill claimed 17th in age group after a battle in the violent swim, Claire had one of the fastest bikes from the ladies on the day. We understand that Claire has since biked the 124 miles around Lake Geneva!

Then back to Yorkshire where the heart of Jackpot Racing lives for the annual Ripon Triathlon. Jackpot came home with the team prize – fantastic! And we had a few age group Gold, Silvers and Bronzes also: Andrew Whiteley flew into the finish as 5th overall and 3rd in age group with a whopping 2:04:50. Alistair Cooke was not far behind in 2:07:50 and 2nd in age group. Tim Ashelford did his usual fast speedy thing with 1st in age group just a few seconds behind Alistair. Matt Pears, 3rd in age group (2:10:24), Rich Knell-Moore 2:12:28, Jenni Muston pipped into 4th lady overall and 2nd in age group in 2:22:53 (time to learn how to take off a wetsuit Jen without sitting on the ground to take it off); Matt Wilson 2:25:59 with a ridiculously fast bike!

CHALLENGE ROTH…he is not called TVR nor likened to a motor car for nothing but Tom Van Rossum had the race of his life yesterday finishing in 50th position at Roth in a huge 09:7:35 – absolutely tremendous going Tom. You really are motoring…
Then back to Geneva for the ETU Elite Race where the Bishop brothers were in action still in very warm temperatures. Tom Bishop popped a fast 5th position, just 30 seconds behind the winner in a time of 1:53:22. David followed Tom in with 1:59:34. Fantastic set of results 🙂
And finally to the Jenson Button Trust Triathlon in Derby where Adam Bowden took the win! And what a photo!!

Kieran Hill took the win at the Crickdale Sprint Triathlon before heading out to Geneva this week for the European Champs alongside Chris Brown, Mika Brown and Claire Pickersgill. Kieran beat the course record by over a minute…that was including an extra 4 lengths in the pool he was loving the race so much!
The Marmotte en France saw Richard Knell-Moore and Nigel Ould amongst the 4500 finishers from 7500 starters. Temperatures were hitting records including 44 degrees at Alpe d’Huez!

And late news from the Otley 50 mile Time Trial from Sunday 28 June where Tom Van Rossum smashed out a 1:49 coming in 6th position; Rich Knell-Moore a 2:01; David Morley 2:07.
But so the title suggests…more is to come, a whole lot more this coming weekend as we head to the Euros at Geneva, Challenge Roth and the infamous Ripon Triathlon. Good luck to all or our athletes 🙂

Down in the Cotswolds Kieran Hill won the Cotswold 51.50 Olympic distance race with a clear lead of 4 minutes on second place! Even after a fall in the run section! Tremendous swim time of 19 minutes for the 1500m distance! Kieran, perhaps you would like to share some of your secrets 🙂
Now to Cholmondeley and one of the Castle series races….Max Hazell popped a bronze overall in the Olympic distance race in a speedy time of 2:07:05 in the men’s race! And the ladies race and a GOLD from Cat Jameson! The race for podiums is heating up! Fantastic going Max and Cat!

Some of the Jackpotters took to the roads for the Coast to Coast in a day on Saturday. In glorious sunshine, Colin Hill, Ady Stott and John Swallow took to the roads and made the crossing from Seascale to Whitby clocking a total of 160 miles and of course finishing with chips by the sea in Whitby.
Wednesday night saw the annual Ilkley Criterium. Eddie Evans scored a BRONZE in the men’s race…a bit of a commotion after a crash during the race and a restart but Eddie went home a happy man and thankfully not part of the crash (we hope those in it are ok and uninjured). The ladies race saw Jenni Muston spat out the back on the first hill (!) (more hill training needed Jen) but she then clawed her way single handedly through the race to catch the second group and ride past them before the end of the race!
