Spread the Love

Sunday 5th October saw more medals added to the Jackpot Racing family silver cupboard with Andrew Whiteley taking 3rd place at the Tri-Crazy Bedford Sprint finishing just a minute behind the winner. Andrew spread the Jackpot love to his family with all of them racing at Bedford.  It was a shorter than normal swim resulting in a lung buster of a race in a very strong field and Andrew running an awesome 17:07 for the 5k!

Further north in Cheshire, Oulton Park held two qualifying events for the European Duathlon Champs 2015.  Kieran Savage led the field out in the sprint distance in a lightning speed run just under 5 minute miling – too fast for a photo!  Whilst Kieran describes his bike as disappointing, he still managed a huge 4th overall place and age-group win and qualification!

Kieran - we hear Dave Morley has offered you his TT bike ;-)

The standard distance followed the sprint where Jenni Muston came off the run in 1st position however dropped to 2nd on the bike (and 3rd in transition! Something to practice on Jen?).  Jen finished 2nd overall and has qualified for the Europeans 2015…however nobody knows where these are yet…

Heading East to Goole, Ben Garrard finished with a tremendous overall position of 10th in a time of 58 minutes, cruising in 4 minutes behind the winning time.  Awaiting full results…!

Ripon Triathlon dominated by Jackpot Racing

Signs of hard racing at Ripon Triathlon

Jackpot Racing claimed many of the top places at Ripon triathlon on 12th July, 2014.

A hot Saturday afternoon’s racing saw Andrew Whiteley claim second position with Jonny McLean, still smiling after his gold in Kitzbuhel, coming home in third position.

Off the podium, but still performing extremely well in a strong feild at the sharp end were Ton van Rossum coming home in fifth place following another outstanding bike performance and Colin Hill in 10th. Both athletes had expressed concerns over knees, ankles, calves and other leggy bits, so to finish in such good positions is even more amazing.

Mika Brown was the first man out of the water in 18:45, but was still chicked by 25 seconds. This was Mika’s first ever Olympic distance race and perhaps his inexperience and the 25 degrees heat lead to him blowing up. “I loved every minute of the race,” said Mika, “can’t wait to do it again”

Jenni Muston, JR’s sole female member, succumbed to her haematoma. Probably not helped by Chris Gorse punching it in the car on the way to the race in a desperate attempt to finish ahead of his beau.

Bridesmaids

Congratulations to David Bishop and Chris Brown on both being the bridesmaid, not the bride, this weekend.

David put in a top performance at Windsor Triathlon, home of the kings and queens of England, in the elite race posting a time of just 1:49:40 including a 31:58 run split.

Meanwhile in the slightly less glamorous coal-mining Rother Valley, near Sheffield, Chris Brown bumbled to a second place in the 50-54 age group to qualify for the World Championships in Edmonton and the 2015 European Championships in Geneva with a course PB

Weekend Roundup 7th/8th June 2014

Busy weekend for Jackpot Racers and medics!

Matt Wilson crashes at the Grafman TriMatt Wilson decided to inspect the tarmac outside a pub on the Grafman Middle Distance. He completed the bike in 2:30 but knee pain pushed him out of the run after 5k :-(. All news was not bad from Grafman (which was the National middle distance champs this year) however as Tom van Rossum came 3rd in the M30-35 age group and a very creditable 10th overall with 0:32, 2:17 and 1:25. Good effort.
Further afield, swim specialist Kieran Bones-Hill rather unusually found himself in the second bike group at the Blenheim elite triathlon, only to be taken out on the second lap by someone pulling into his front wheel and bringing three other guys down at the same time. Again, though another JR sprang to the rescue; David Bishop followed up his win at Lough Cutra with a 3rd overall. Will Cowan was the third of our team at the race but decided not to do the run due to injury.
Richard Knell-Moore stayed upright to post a 2:10:55 in the Deva with a 1:02 on the bike.
Over at Bala Middle Distance Eddie Howarth ate up more road than toilet paper and baby wipes in posting 4:22:16 to claim 6th place overall with 0:29, 2:20 and 1:30. That’s moving.

Well done everyone

LoughCutra 2014

David Bishop at Lough CutraDavid Bishop is flying the ‘Bishop’ flag these days with Tom temporarily incapacitated. And he is well and truly flying; congratulations on an overall win at the Lough Cutra Triathlon (part of the Castle Series) in 2:00:03, more than 3 1/2 minutes ahead of the nearest competitor.

David’s swim was 19:25, the cycle was completed in 1:07:19 and the run totaled 31:52.

Hope you sprinted in and effort for those 3 seconds David?
