First Tri of the Season (the new one)

A little cold in these waters but over in Australia the new (old?) tri season has commenced.  Craig Boggon put in a blinder of a race at the Active Tri Melbourne Series in the Sprint race…175th…ONE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY FIFTH out of the water (sans wetsuit – whilst on his travels, Craig has no wetsuit due to the weight of them)…and borrowing an aluminium bike, Craig motored like a jet engine to 64th overall after the bike section and then finally finished 22nd overall after the run and 2nd in age group!  What a race! Even Craig looks surprised from the photo below 😉

Punchy

Mika Brown kicked off an early weekend in Australia…think it was still Friday here…at the Sole Motive Spring Into Shape 5k in Melbourne.  Mika smashed out a whopping 16 minutes 30 seconds and was second overall. Sounds a lovely route along the Yarra River and around the outskirts of the Botanical Gardens.

Still in the running discipline, Jenni Muston headed to Worksop for the half marathon to try and duck under 90 minutes for a championship entry at the London Marathon next year…mission accomplished, 7th lady overall and 2nd in age group (41-44). Let the hard work begin!

And then Kieran Savage had an absolute blinder of a race at the National Hill Climb championships in our own county at Jackson Bridge! To put things into perspective Kieran is a junior…his time of 4 minutes 28 seconds up the climb was just 9 seconds behind the fastest male senior.  Kieran bought home the glitter that is gold.

A nice set of smart punchy results this weekend 🙂

*** PODIUM PRESS ***

Matt Hallam popped another podium at the weekend at the 1485 Tri Club Market Bosworth Duathlon. Matt scored a silver just seconds behind the winner Huwel Davies and both were practically neck and neck on the first run and bike section. The race covered a 5k run, 21k bike and 5 k run – Matt’s times: 16:43; 33:52; then a whopping 16:35!  We have a feeling that Matt is doing well on the podium tables at Jackpot this season.  Great racing Matt!

The worlds ITU Duathlon took place this weekend in Adelaide, Australia, with two of our Jackpotters participating. Craig Boggon who has been spending time in the far corner of the world recently took up his qualification place and put in a storming race at the standard distance in his 20-24 age group.  Craig was 10th male home and 1st Brit home in his age group – Craig’s first run was a whopping 36:46 on the 10k distance! Next up, a few years older was Dave Morley in the sprint, 44-49 age category where competition, as in Craig’s category, was tough.  Dave was 23rd overall and flew around the course in an overall time of 1:08:05.  Well done chaps – safe trips home 🙂

Still in sunny climes, Cat Jameson headed to Mallorca for the Challenge Paguera middle distance race.  Cat held first position  – first out of the swim in 25:48 and first off the bike in 2:34:27 – until mid way during the run section and finished 7th lady overall.  A tremendous finish to an awesome season for Cat this year.

The Duathlon season is upon us…

Whilst one of our athletes was on his way to the Worlds Duathlon in Adelaide (racing next Sunday – tune in for that one – we are expecting great things David Morley!), Matt Hallam destroyed the field at the Carsington Duathlon in Derbyshire over the weekend. The event was a 5k run – 30k undulating bike with a twister of a tail climb thrown in for good measure at Middleton top – followed by a 5k run. Matt bolted home in 1st position after coming out of T2 in 4th. Tremendous going Matt – the weather looked good pretty much perfect for it too!

Podium!

Back in sunny Yorkshire, Matt Pears was one of the lucky ones to have a ticket for the Yorkshire Marathon. Matt finished in a time of 3:27:35 whilst co-Jackpotter China Clarke headed back down sowf for the Royal Parks Half Marathon in London at Hyde Park finishing in a time of 1:34:22.
